In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Al-Ghazali records in his book, Ihya Ulum ud-Deen:
Abu Sa’eed Al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
لَايَسْمَعُنِدَاءَالْمُؤَذِّنِجِنٌّوَلَاإِنْسٌوَلَاشَيْءٌإِلَّاشَهِدَلَهُيَوْمَالْقِيَامَةِ
“Whoever hears the call to prayer, whether human or jinn or any creature, it will be a witness for him on the Day of Resurrection.”

Abu Sa’eed Al-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said:
إِذَاسَمِعْتُمُالنِّدَاءَفَقُولُوامِثْلَمَايَقُولُالْمُؤَذِّنُ
“When you hear the call to prayer, then say something similar to what the caller has said.”

To repeat what the caller to prayer has said is a recommended and beloved act, but when he hearts the two statements “hurry to the prayer, hurry to success” (hiya ‘ala as-salat, hiya ‘ala al-falah) then he should say after hearing them:
لَاحَوْلَوَلَاقُوَّةَإِلَّابِاللَّهِ
There is no power or might but with Allah (la hawla wa la quwwata illa bi Allah).
When he hears the statement “the prayer is being established” (qad qamat as-salah) then he should say after hearing it:
أَقَامَهَااللَّهُوَأَدَامَهَا
May Allah establish it and make it endure (aqamaha Allahu wa adamaha).
When he hears during the dawn prayer the statement “prayer is better than sleep” (as-salatu khayrun min an-nawm) then he should say:
صَدَقْتَوَبَرَرْتَ
You have spoken truthfully and righteously (sadaqtu wa barartu).
At the end of the call to prayer, he should say:
اللَّهُمَّرَبَّهَذِهِالدَّعْوَةِالتَّامَّةِوَالصَّلَاةِالْقَائِمَةِآتِمُحَمَّدًاالْوَسِيلَةَوَالْفَضِيلَةَوَابْعَثْهُمَقَامًامَحْمُودًاالَّذِيوَعَدْتَهُ
“O Allah, Lord of this perfect call and established prayer, give Muhammad the means of approach and favor, and raise him to the praiseworthy status which You promised for him.”
