Construction of Turkey’s first nuclear plant will begin in May if an environmental impact report wins approval.
The report on the Akkuyu nuclear power plant has been submitted to the Environment and Urban Planning Ministry for evaluation. According to government officials, the Environmental Effect Evaluation Report could be approved in May.

Turkey is to support the rebuilding of an Islamic heritage site in Timbuktu which was destroyed by armed groups in 2012, the United Nation’s cultural agency’s (UNESCO) representative in Mali Lazare Eloundou said on Wednesday.
“Turkey along with UNESCO is ready to work to rebuild mausoleums, tombs and mosques which UNESCO started on March 14, at an estimated cost of around $11 million,” Eloundou said.

Turkey is determined to see the first unit of its planned Akkuyu nuclear power plant operating by 2019, the country's energy minister Taner Yildiz said during a speech in Ankara on Thursday.
The Akuyyu plant, which will consist of four reactors, will be Turkey's first and will be built by Russian energy company Rosatom on the Mediterranean coast, with the aim of it being fully operational by 2023.

Turkey's largest and the world's fifth biggest water tunnel has been inaugurated by the Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan in the south-eastern city of Sanliurfa in the Suruc district.
The water tunnel has been built as part of the regional development project, Southeastern Anatolia Project, which aims to boost the economy and agriculture in an impoverished part of Turkey.

Young scientists from all across the Turkic countries will compete in the `Turkic World Science Olympics` in central Turkey on May 8-10.
Scientific projects from students aged between 11 and 15 will be entered into categories for invention and design, and will take part in the olympiad, held as part of a wider series of `Cultural Capital of the Turkic World` organizations.

Turkey launched its TURKSAT 4A communications satellite from the Baikonur Space Center in Kazakhstan on Friday night.
The TURKSAT 4A Communication Satellite was Turkey´s fifth to be put into orbit.
The Turksat 4A telecommunication satellite was jointly produced with Turkish and Japanese engineers.
