Marjani is a religious figure, an educator, a philosopher, a historian. The above definitions do not fully cover all aspects of his multifaceted activities. Marjani is also an ethnographer, an archeographer, an orientalist and an educator. The encyclopedic nature of his knowledge can be compared with the encyclopedicism of the French enlighteners of the eighteenth century - Diderot and Rousseau.
 
 

Biography of Tatar Sheikh Muhammad-Zakir al-Chistawi (Kamalov) in the Arabic-language manuscripts

For many centuries Tatar literature grew and developed within the framework of a single common Islamic culture in close relations with the Arab, Persian and Turkish cultures.
 
The Muslims of the Volga and the Urals were closely included in the orbit of the Muslim life of the Middle East, which also affected the genre composition of Tatar Muslim literature, absorbing the best features of the Arab-Muslim literary tradition.
 
 

Exhibition on 99 names of Allah opened in Kazan

The exhibition of "99 names of the Almighty God" opened at the Kazan Kremlin. There are works of classical Islamic art of IX-XIX centuries.

The event organized with the assistance of the Support Fund for cultural programs named after Sh.Mardzhani, were presented 99 world masterpieces in accordance to the number of the names of God. 

 

UNESCO adds Tatarstani site to world heritage list

The ancient city of Bolgar in Russia’s Republic of Tatarstan has been inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List.

The inscriptions came on June 23 at the ongoing 38th session of the World Heritage Committee in Doha, Qatar.

 

Muslim women call to end headscarf ban in Tatarstan

The Union of Muslim Women in Russia and Tatarstan have called on the Russian Education Ministry to remove the headscarf ban in schools in the Republic of Tataristan.

In the 'Women Representatives of Peace' meeting, which hosted 324 delegates including those from the Russian republics of Bashkortistan and Mordovia, speakers called for the ban on the headscarf to end.

 

Islamic art exhibition to be held in Kazan Kremlin

May 21, an exhibition of Islamic art “V & A Jameel Prize” will start its work at the "Hermitage-Kazan" exhibition center in Kazan Kremlin. Victoria and Albert Museum (V & A, London), the world's leading museum of art and design, for the first time hold such exhibition in the capital of Tatarstan.

 

Unique silver Quran given over to Kazan Kremlin museum
