Accepting Islam months ago, a once anti-Islam activist who produced a derogatory film wrongly portraying Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said he has found peace and tranquility while performing hajj this year.

“I found myself among these faithful hearts,”Arnoud Van Doorn, a former member of Wilders’ Freedom Party, was quoted by Saudi Gazette on Friday, October 18.

The Chairman of the ready-made Clothes and Textiles Committee in Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) Muhammad Al-Shehri has estimated the volume of pilgrims’ spending during the current hajj season to purchase clothes and fabrics at over 1 billion Saudi riyals.
This was injected in the clothes market in Saudi Arabia, the volume of whose investments are estimated at SR10 billion.

Muslims with physical and financial abilities are required to perform hajj once in their lifetime, but those who arrive in Saudi Arabia and then fall ill are given a hand to get to the finish line.
Well-equipped ambulances with highly trained paramedics on Saturday transferred 23 foreign patient pilgrims from Madina, 340 km north of Makkah to Arafat’s Public Hospital in the Muslim holy city.

Number of pilgrims increases 75 times in 70 years

The number of foreign pilgrims has increased more than 75 times over the past 70 years, according to Abdulhamid Abal Arry, general director of King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah.
He said the number of pilgrims increased from 23,863 in 1941 to 1.8 million in 2010. 
He said that 1.67 million pilgrims had arrived by air this season. Around 8.3 million pilgrims came through King Abdulaziz International Airport for Haj and Umrah in 2012 alone.

MERS safety: Pilgrims must wear masks

The Ministry of Health advised Haj pilgrims on Wednesday to wear face masks in the holy cities to protect themselves from the deadly MERS virus.
Dr. Nazreen Sherbini, a specialist in infectious diseases and influenza, said MERS is transmitted through droplets from coughing and sneezing. 


Art exhibition showcases 1908 hajj trip from Egypt

Not long ago, the adventure of riding ships from Egypt was a normal way to reach the other side of the Red Sea coast to perform Haj. Dar Al-Hekma College recently organized an exhibition showcasing pictures of the hajj trip from Egypt in 1908.
A total of 53 pictures were on display with captions to portray the different stages that pilgrims had to go through during their trip.


Hajis checked for diseases at Jeddah port

Adel bin Mohammed Turkistani, director of the health control center at the Jeddah Islamic Port (JIP), has confirmed that the health of pilgrims coming through the JIP is excellent.
He said that port officials have not registered cases of infectious diseases since the beginning of September, when the first group of pilgrims arrived.  The director pointed out that, the center has inspected 273 vessels arriving from various countries since the Haj season began, including 33 carriers dedicated to transporting pilgrims.
