Sharia marriages can be covered by English law

Muslim women who are left powerless to claim money or property from their husbands after the breakdown of an Islamic marriage have been “given hope” by a landmark ruling at the High Court.
 
The Honourable Mr Justice Williams found a woman was entitled to maintenance from her husband after they split, even though they had only undergone a “nikah” ceremony and had not formally registered their marriage.
 
 

Wisdom of Shaykh al-Yaqoubi - Loving the Dunya

Al-Yaqoubi was born in Damascus, Syria. He comes from a family of Islamic scholars who have taught the Islamic sciences for centuries. His father, Ibrahim al-Yaqoubi (d. 1985) was a scholar.

His paternal grandfather Ismail al-Yaqoubi (d. 1960) was a scholar and Sufi master. His father’s maternal uncle was Arabi al-Yaqoubi (d. 1965), and his paternal uncle was the Gnostic Sharif al-Yaqoubi (d. 1943).

Amongst al-Yaqoubi’s predecessors three have held the post of Maliki Imam at the Grand Umayyad Mosque of Damascus

 

 

Young campaigners force Yemeni parents to set lower dowries

Young demonstrators in central Yemen launched a campaign to reduce marriage dowries to $1,000.
 
Local sources said that dozens of unmarried youngsters from al-Jarf village, in the Taaz governorate, 256 km south of Sanaa, demonstrated in the evening of the second day of Al-Adha, calling for a reduced marriage dowries.

The first thing we should look for when marrying is how committed the person is to Islam. Prophet Muhammad (sallallahu alayhi was sallam) said, “A woman is normally sought as a wife for her wealth, beauty, nobility, or religiousness (adherence to Islam), but choose a religious woman and you will prosper.” (Muslim)
