Malaysia dominates the Islamic economy

Malaysia can lay claim to be the center of the world’s global Islamic economy, but the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is hot on its heels, according to new research.
 
The “State of the Global Islamic Economy Report 2018/19,” commissioned by the Dubai Islamic Economy Development Centre (DIEDC) and produced by Thomson Reuters, shows a narrowing gap between the two hubs. The Islamic economy is the Muslim-majority countries that have financial sectors and economies which comply with Islamic law.
 
 

UAE climbs up passport rankings, now 7th most powerful

Nearly three weeks after making the leap to the 8th most powerful in the world, the UAE passport has risen yet again in the ranks to the 7th place.
 
Citizens of the UAE can now enter 159 countries worldwide without a visa or with visa on arrival.
 
The UAE's passport ranking score is 159 in the Passport Index, with UAE's citizens allowed to travel to 112 countries without a visa, and to 47 countries with visa on arrival.
 
 

Around 50% UAE residents ignorant of high blood pressure risks

A nation-wide survey has shown that awareness of high blood pressure (HBP) in the UAE is a key concern, with close to half of the respondents not perceiving the condition as potentially fatal or being 'unaware of its symptoms.'
 
Of these, Emiratis topped at 62 per cent as well as those in the age group of 18-24 years (58 per cent), according to results from a survey conducted by Cigna and YouGov.

UAE passport becomes 9th most powerful in the world

Dr Anwar Gargash, the UAE's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, had tweeted early Thursday morning, "Good morning to all my followers. The UAE passport has just been ranked as the 9th most powerful passport with visa-free entry to 157 countries world wide."

A bilateral visa waiver agreement between the UAE and Russia earlier in July had seen the Emirati passport become the 10th most powerful in the world.
 
 

UAE ranks highest globally in halal tourism spending

Driven by the UAE, halal tourism is projected to grow further in the coming years due to an increase in the Muslim population and the rise of middle class in Muslim-majority countries.
 
A new study has revealed that UAE residents are the world's highest spenders of halal tourism outside the country, spending Dh64.6 billion ($17.6 billion) last year.
