Iran new satellite ready for lift-off into space: Minister

Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan says the country’s new domestically designed and manufactured satellite is ready to be launched into orbit, and it will be lifted into space in due time.

“Presence in space is a strategic issue and indicates the scientific, technological and industrial power of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” Dehqan said in the Iranian Persian Gulf island of Kish on Tuesday.

 

Iranian cheetah sighting gives hope to conservation efforts

Wildlife experts hailed the success of U.N.-backed initiative to protect Asiatic cheetahs from extinction, despite sanctions imposed by the west making funds and equipment hard to obtain, reported the Guardian on Tuesday.

The Asiatic cheetahs are classified as extinct around the world except for in Iran, where they are critically endangered. In an unusual sighting, four wildlife experts from the Persian Wildlife Heritage Foundation (PWHF) witnessed a group of five Asiatic Cheetahs as the environmentalists were coming back from a trip to Iran’s Turan national park, home to some of the largest Asiatic cheetah populations in the world.

The Israeli regime and its lobby in the United States are worried about the likelihood of normalization of ties between Tehran and Washington, a political analyst says.
 
“The Tel Aviv regime and the pro-Israel lobby in the United States are clearly worried about the diplomatic impact of [Iran President Hassan] Rouhani’s UN visit and the qualitative steps forward which were taken by both the US and Iran toward dialog and negotiation,” Kaveh L. Afrasiabi wrote in a Monday article for Press TV.

UNESCO World Heritage to review Iran’s two historical spots

The 37th session of UNESCO World Heritage Committee is to assess Iran’s two suggested files for a possible inscription on the World Heritage list.

The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization is slated to review the files of Iran’s Golestan Palace and Meymand Cave Village along with 32 other submitted sites from around the world.

Pakistan approves 100,000 tons of wheat for Iran to pay for power

Islamabad has authorized the export of 100,000 tons of wheat to Iran in trade not jeopardized by Western sanctions, to settle dues for electricity supplied to Pakistan’s energy-starved border areas, the Commerce Ministry said on Friday.

The shipment of 100,000 tons was to have been delivered to Iran in mid-February but was delayed by preparations for Pakistan’s May 11 election.

 

U.S. to block sale of gold to Iran in sanctions clampdown

The United States is to rigorously enforce a ban on gold sales to Iran from July 1, in a further tightening of sanctions over Tehran's disputed nuclear activities.

David S. Cohen, the U.S. Treasury Department's undersecretary for terrorism and financial intelligence, told lawmakers in testimony there had been an increase in gold sales to Iran in response to the sharp depreciation in Iran's currency, the rial.
