What is Islam

Junaid Baghdadi and Love for Allah

Once at the time of Hajj, there was a gathering in Mecca of some friends of Allah; the youngest among whom was Junaid Baghdadi (ra). In that gathering, there was a discussion on the subject of 'Love for Allah' and as to who is the lover of Allah. Many of them expressed their views on the subject, but Junaid (ra) kept quiet. He was pressed to say something.

Alcohol - A Disease?

By Ahmed Deedat

If alcoholism is a disease then it is the only disease that

  is sold in bottles
is advertised in newspapers, magazines, radios and television
is contracted by the will of man
has licensed outlets to spread it
  produces revenue for the government
brings violent deaths on the highways
has no germs or viral cause
  propels one's health to self-destruction
destroys family life and increases crime.

Patience, Perseverance, and Prayer

By Huda, About.com Guide

During times of deep trial, despair, and sadness, Muslims seek comfort and guidance in the words of Allah in the Qur'an. Allah reminds us that all people will be tried and tested in life, and calls upon Muslims to bear these trials with "patient perseverance and prayer."

The Dignity of Islam's Social Etiquette

By: Ahmad Al-Batili

Cordially making room for newcomers in a gathering is a rule of refined conduct taught and encouraged by the Prophet Muhammad, sallallahu alayhe wa sallam.

Allah, subhanahu wa ta'ala, says: "O you who have believed, when you are told, 'Make room [for one another]' in gatherings, then make room; Allah will make room for you. And when you are told: 'Arise!' then arise. Allah will raise those who have believed among you and those who were given knowledge by degrees. And Allah is acquainted with what you do" [58:11].

The Last Sermon of The Prophet

The last sermon of the Prophet-peace be upon him- is known as Khutbatul Wada'.  It is mentioned in almost all books of Hadith. Following Ahadith in Sahih Al-Bukhari refer to the sermon, and quote part of it.  See Al-Bukhari, Hadith 1623, 1626, 6361) Sahih of Imam Muslim also refers to this sermon in Hadith number 98.  Imam al-Tirmidhi has mentioned this sermon in Hadith nos. 1628, 2046, 2085.  Imam Ahmed bin Hanbal has given us the longest, and perhaps the most complete version of this sermon in his Masnud, Hadith no. 19774.

Killing Time Is Killing Yourself

Our life is measured by the number of breaths.

My dear brothers, today, I think, it is best to remember and reflect on the most important thing we have today – on time, its transience and its preciousness. What is the most precious thing you have? Someone might reply, it is their children, property, house, relatives, etc. But in fact the most precious thing for us after the grace of Islam is time. If we are unaware of that, we must learn and understand it, and remember it every day.

What Splits the Ummah?

Arguing About Religion is Very Harmful for the Ignorant.

Praise be to Allah, we have believers who are eager to meet the requirements of religion, to be true Muslims. These believers fulfill religious obligations to attract others to the path of the Almighty, because they worry about them. But this call is often associated with rudeness and violence.
