What is Islam

Love…glue that holds the community together

And that hadith is the saying of the Prophet (peace be upon him):

“No one of you truly believes until he loves for his brother what he loves for himself”.

Was Islam really spread by the sword?

By Idris Tawfiq |The Egyptian Gazette| 15 Jan 2012

Perhaps one of the greatest misconceptions about Islam is that Islam was spread by the sword. This idea has been spread abroad so widely by mischief makers that some people just accept it as a fact.

Even the devil, though, can quote scripture. In other words, anyone can take a verse of scripture out of context from the Bible or the Qur’an and make it seem to represent that religion.

Tests and trials from Allah

Sermon delivered by Shaykh Said Afandi in Chirkey village mosque after Tarawih prayer on 27 Ramadan 2005.

Muhyiddin al-Arabi, may Allah bless his soul, says that there was a night he was spending sleepless in the Qurtuba mosque when all the Prophets unexpectedly arrived there. All of them starting with Adam (PBUH) had come. “This surprised me and I wondered what gathering there was going on”, says Ibn al-Arabi. And he asked one of them, what was the reason of their gathering, what was their goal. And the answer was: “There was a very pious person. His name was Mansur al-Hallajj. And we have gathered here today to intercede for him, to ask the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) to forgive him.

Islam in America: Everything You've Always Wanted to Know -- But Were Afraid to Ask

By Daniel Tutt | Huffingtonpost | 13 Jan 2012

One of the more unfortunate outcomes of the anti-mosque protests, anti-sharia legislation and the impact of the Islamophobia network is that they have left many Americans confused about the truth of Islam and Muslims in America.

STANWOOD COBB was a Harvard educated historian who lived and taught in Istanbul, Turkey nearly a century ago. In 1914 he published a book, based on his experiences in the Orient.

In his book "Islamic Contribution to Civilization", he writes:

The intention while studying

It is essential to have an intention during the course of one’s studies because the intention is fundamental in all actions. Rasulullah (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam) is reported to have said, “All actions are based on intentions”. This is an authentic hadiths narrated from Nabi (sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam).

Does Islam Support Adoption?

Commonly people think that adoption is not allowed in the Islam. However, the reality is that the thing Islam preaches is superior to what people think about it. In adoption, one cannot change the last name (family or father) or the adopted child. However, the prophet (SAW) said, the best house of Muslims is the one where an orphan is taken care of. Prophet (SAW) was himself an orphan. In Quran, Allah tells the holy prophet to take care the orphans by reminding him his time.

Belief in God

By Shaikh Shahidullah Faridi

It is mistakenly imagined by some that belief in a Supreme Being as the Creator and Controller of the universe is a mere emotional aspiration, a superstition of ancient times, irrational and illogical, and exploded by modern science.

Praying five times a day with a busy work schedule

by Daliah Merzaban
Source: Huffington Post

Before I genuinely began to cultivate and nurture my relationship with God, I regarded the five daily prayers that Islam enjoins on believers as laborious. It seemed impractical to expect that I would be able to stop what I was doing during my busy work schedule to take time out and pray.

The significance of Ashura

Translated by Ustadh Amin Buxton
When the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) came to Medina he found the Jews fasting the Day of `Ashura’, the tenth of Muharram. He asked them why they were fasting and they told him that it was an auspicious day: the day on which Allah saved Musa and his people and drowned Firaun and his people.
