What is Islam

Source : / 27 June 2013

Every year we witness the month of Ramadhan but if someone were to ask us what does Ramadhan mean what would be our reply? If we were ask to define fasting (sawm) what would be our reply?

Ramadhan comes from the word rimdun or ramada which means to scorch, according to the Ulema it is hoped that during the month of Ramadhan the sins of the believers will be scorched or burnt.

Clear and decisive verses in the Noble Quran encourage fasting as a means of seeking nearness to Allah the Mighty, and explain its virtues, such as the saying of Allah, the Most High:

Let’s Beat Procrastination Before Ramadan

By Talha Tashfeen Qayyum / 25 June 2013

Procrastination is the big daddy of productivity busters and seems to spare no one from its deadly clutches. It is something that we as humans fall for subconsciously at one time or the other.

As a child I was always told by my beloved mother not to delay what is to be done to a later time as it is something that stems from carelessness and laziness. Procrastination is a habit that is difficult to shake off once developed.

The Purpose of Man’s Creation

By Mufti Muhammad Taqi Usmani / 22 June 2013

Know that Allah (Exalted is He) created man for His worship.

Thus, Allah (Exalted is He) states in the Noble Qur’an:

“I have not created jinn and humankind but to worship Me.”(Qur’an 51:56)

Meaning, I created jinn and man only for one purpose, which is My worship. The original purpose of man’s life and the original purpose of his coming into this world and residing in the world is that he worships Allah (Magnificent is His Glory).

The Need for Consultation (mushāwara)

By Muhammad Haq / 7 June 2013

In the name of Allah, the most Merciful, the most Kind.

As Muslims, the best role model we have is of course, the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ(peace be upon him). About him, Allah Subhanahu wa Ta`ala (exalted is He) says:

“And indeed, you are of a great moral character.”

The Night Journey: When the Unseen is Revealed

Source : / 6 June 2013

The Night Journey and the Ascension to heaven was not a miracle confined in time or limited with space and it was not an event that simply passed by because this miracle still stands as an eye witness with all its encompassing lessons and benefits. This miraculous event still serves as a flowing spring from which the Ummah benefits to solve their current problems through seeking the Prophetic guidance.

Qur’an Your Gateway to a New World

Source: / 6 June 2013

If we are like most Muslims, we probably have a copy of the Qur’an somewhere in our home. We may not know where it is, but that is only because we never needed to look for it. Most often, it occupies the top shelf in any stack of books (ensuring maximum accessibility!), or found wrapped in multiple layers of decorated cloth (ensuring optimum visibility!). More likely than not, it's the one book with the most dust on it and the one we are least likely to pick for our night-time reading. There is a reason we treat this 'holy book' in such a disgraceful manner: we do not know why we have it and why we need it in the first place.
