Stainless steel tanks to replace Zamzam plastic containers

Authorities at the Grand Mosque at Makkah and the Prophet’s Mosque at Madinah will soon replace plastic water dispensers with stainless steel tankers in a bid to keep Zamzam water supplies sterile and cool for pilgrims ahead of the scorching summer months, said Maher Al-Zahrani, director of the Zamzam Water Division at the Presidency of the Two Holy Mosques Affairs.

Dubai, long champion of all things biggest, longest and most expensive, will soon have some competition from neighboring Saudi Arabia.

Dubai's iconic Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest building, could be stripped of its Guinness title if Saudi Arabia succeeds in its plans to construct the even larger Kingdom Tower in Jeddah -- a prospect looking more likely as work begins next week, according to Construction Weekly.

In 2013 in Russia with the use of the high-end technology the Moscow Mint of the Ministry of Finance of the Russian Federation issued a collection of 40 replica stamps made of 999 fine silver and dedicated it to the Holy City of Mecca.
 

Piece of Kiswa on display in Haj expo

A piece of Kiswa, thick black cloth with intricate embroidery of Qur'anic verses in gold, that covers the door of the Kaaba will be on display at the second Saudi Haj Exhibition in Paris from today onwards, Makkah Daily reported.

Mohammed Al-Jabri, an official of the Presidency of the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques, said that for the first time a piece of the Kaaba will be displayed internationally.

Crimea threatens to stop museum cooperation with Europe

The Republic of Crimea will stop museum and exhibition cooperation with Europe, if the Netherlands refuse to return a collection of Scythian gold which is currently on view in Amsterdam to Crimean museums, the CrimeaInform news agency reported on Monday with reference to Valery Kosarev, the head of the permanent commission of the Crimean State Council (parliament) for education, science, youth affairs and sport.

Amid war, world record set in Damascus

A group of Syrian artists in Damascus has created the world’s biggest mural made of recycled materials, a rare work aimed at brightening public space in a city sapped by war and sanctions.

The brightly colored, 720-sq meter work was constructed from aluminum cans, broken mirrors, bicycle wheels and other scrap objects and displayed on a street outside a primary school in the center of the Syrian capital.
