Affluent Muslims fueling global tourism boom

The international tourism industry is gradually awakening to an emerging travel market that is twice the size of China’s, and bigger than that of the US — affluent Muslim holidaymakers with money to spend.

At the world’s largest travel trade show, which wrapped up in Germany over the weekend, attendees at ITB Berlin heard that Muslim holidaymakers spend more than $126 billion USD annually on tourism — and that the numbers are rising.

 

Mosque Approval Delights Aussie Muslims

Overcoming a vicious campaign against their worship place, jubilant Muslims are celebrating the approval of a new mosque in Australia’s most populous city of Melbourne.

“That’s what we plan to do,”Sherene Hassan, spokeswoman for the applicants, was cited by The Age newspaper.

“But we haven't felt much love from this group.”

 

Madinah to start stint as new Islamic culture capital

Crown Prince Salman Bin Abdul Aziz, Deputy Premier and Minister of Defense, is scheduled to launch today (Tuesday) festivities to celebrate Madinah as the new capital of Islamic culture. Prominent Muslim scholars, historians and intellectuals will be in attendance at the festivities which will continue for a whole year.

The idea to choose a city in the Arab and Islamic World to be the capital of Islamic culture for a year on a rotational basis was introduced by the Islamic Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ISESCO) in 2005.

 

Spain Muslims Introduce Halal Culture

Over 550,000 to hone skills at Makkah forum

More than 550,000 young Saudi men and women are expected to participate in the third edition of Makkah Youth Forum 2013, which was launched here yesterday by Makkah Gov. Prince Khaled Al-Faisal.

“Youths are makers of the future and it is our duty to prepare them to carry out this mission properly,” the governor said while highlighting the annual forum’s importance.

You know that there must be many rules, customs and etiquettes, and you don’t want to offend anyone or break any rules, but it takes time to learn what these are. Strasbourg Mosque Welcomes French Tours

“From the very beginning, we wanted to be open to the people around us,”Said Aalla, a Strasbourg jurist who is president of the mosque’s governing council, told The Washington Post.

World’s tallest hotel JW Marriott Marquis opens in Dubai

The JW Marriott brand officially opened the JW Marriott Marquis Dubai on Tuesday.

Acquiring the coveted title of World’s Tallest hotel from the Guinness Book of World Records, the 72-storey property is the first JW Marriott Marquis outside of North America and the 59th addition to the brand’s global luxury portfolio.

A host of international VIPs, including Marriott International’s President & CEO Arne Sorenson are in Dubai this week for the official unveiling.
